How to get from Haneda Airport to Tokyo: Your options at a glance

Overview of cheapest, fastest ways to get to Tokyo from Haneda

Haneda to Tokyo by train

In most scenarios, taking the train is definitely the fastest option. After all, you can just hop on the train right there in the airport and you can whizz your way through to Tokyo without getting snarled up in traffic. Compared to the limousine bus, trains leave Haneda more frequently, too, so you're unlikely to have to wait long. And, of course, you won't be able to beat the train on price. The only disadvantages are that you are likely to have to change train (with a few exceptions) and there may not be much room for your luggage, especially after you leave the airport service and change to a regular train. There is also the issue that the trains stop running before midnight so rail transport may not be a viable option for those coming in on late-night flights (our last flight into Haneda, just last year, arrived at 10:30pm but it took us more than an hour to clear immigration, customs and collect our bags - we were glad we had pre-booked a taxi).

Taking the train is the best option for travellers on a budget, solo travellers, those who don't mind navigating Japanese train stations just off the plane and travellers who have a stopover in Haneda and would like to quickly see a little of Tokyo before their onward flight.

Haneda to Tokyo by limousine bus

The limousine bus is neither the fastest nor cheapest option but it scores on convenience. The bus stops are right outside the arrivals lobby of Haneda Airport, your luggage is packed into the bus for you and you just have to sit back and enjoy the ride. The buses have arrivals points all over the city and may even stop right at your hotel. The journey from Haneda to central Tokyo won't take too long (depending on your destination, of course) but you'll be subject to traffic conditions and may have to wait 20-30 minutes in the airport since the limousine buses don't have as dense a schedule as the trains.

Taking the limousine bus is a great option if you are travelling as a family, especially with small kids, since you'll get rid of your luggage and be able to travel hands-free without having to worry about everybody getting out of the train in time, managing suitcases, etc. It's only worth it, however, if you will be getting out within easy walking distance of your hotel. Taking a train or taxi after the limousine bus probably won't pay, in terms of yen or time.

Tickets can be booked ahead of time online. Klook makes it easy to book for the right bus. You can then board with a QR code on your phone.

Haneda to Tokyo by taxi / private transfer

This is certainly the luxe option but Haneda is much closer to central Tokyo than Narita Airport, so taking a taxi won't be as budget-busting as you might think. If you are travelling as a group (4+), you won't be able to fit into a standard taxi, especially if you all have luggage, but a few "jumbo" taxis for 5-6 people are available at the airport. For larger groups, we advise booking a private transfer, in which case it may not cost much more altogether than the train or the bus. In this case, you won't even have to go looking for a taxi when you arrive. Your driver will pick you up at arrivals, pack your luggage Tetris-like into the back of your minibus and whisk you to the front door of your hotel.

A taxi or private transfer is also a good option if your hotel is a bit further away from a train station or limousine bus stop, especially if you're not the best map-reader or have a lot of luggage.

As we mentioned above, the trains (and also limousine buses) stop running at around midnight or just before, so if you arrive on a late-night flight, you might have no other option than to take a taxi. Bear in mind that even if you make the train from the airport, you might not make the last train at wherever you have to change.

Book your private transfer in advance and be met at the airport by your driver. Check prices on Klook by clicking on the button below.
